I was on my way home last night. Seated beside me in the multicab is a girl in a conventional hospital nurse uniform. She was excitedly chatting with another girl on her side. I know it is not good to eavesdrop but I could hear their voices without intending to listen to their conversation. They just came from a school-related activity. When I dropped my head trying to take a nap, I saw a hardbound folder on the girl's lap. I figured out they just attended her oath taking ceremony.

When I was just a little girl, I have always wanted to become a teacher. I would insist I be one on role-plays in school or even at home. Most of my classmates and friends also wanted to be a teacher. It could be that our teachers had great influence on our childhood dreams. I have never dreamed I would be in a medical profession. The only times I have worn lab coats for doctors were on science laboratories.

I have seen people on medical scrub sets but never imagined myself wearing one. Because of that one fateful day, when I fainted with the sight of blood from cut flesh, I never wished to become a medical practitioner.

My Kids Got Sore Eyes

My Kids Got Sore Eyes
My two boys had sore eyes last weekend. On Friday afternoon, my eight-year-old son, Kuya, arrived from school with red eyes. He got it from their teacher who chose to attend school despite having sore eyes. I am not sure how many other kids got the infection from her.

I told Kuya not to touch his eyes to prevent further infection to the other eye and to lessen its possible spread to the whole household. He did follow me but eventually, while sleeping, he unconsciously rubbed his eyes with the face towel he kept on his bed. When he woke up the next day, he had two red eyes!

My toddler got sore eyes too! We treated their eyes with Terramycin eye ointment and the redness were gone within a day.

Music Monday #7 - Dirty Dancing: Time of My Life

Dirty Dancing is a 1987 romantic film made in the United States. Written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino, the film features Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Cynthia Rhodes, and Jerry Orbach. The story is a coming of age drama that documents a teenaged woman's rebellion against her father by starting a relationship with a dance instructor during a family summer vacation. Almost a third of the film involves dancing scenes choreographed by Kenny Ortega (later famous for High School Musical).

Originally a low-budget film by a new studio and with no major stars (except Broadway legend Jerry Orbach in a supporting role), Dirty Dancing became a massive box office hit. As of 2009, it earned over $214 million worldwide. It was the first film to sell more than a million copies on home video, and the Dirty Dancing soundtrack generated two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles, including "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", which won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, and a Grammy Award for best duet. The film spawned a 2004 prequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, as well as a stage version which has had sellout performances in Australia, Europe, and North America, with plans to open on Broadway.
