Celebrate New Year Without a Bang

Celebrate New Year Without a Bang
New Year is apparently the grandest celebration of the year. The celebration takes place from New Year's Eve and is often solemnized with great grandiosity. Fireworks are very popular during this season and as such, they are a major part of the New Year tradition. As the New Year comes closer, an increasing number of people are admitted to hospitals, most of which are victims of firecrackers. The Department of Health has issued Department Order 271, series of 2010, in line with the collaborative effort to reduce the incidence of firecracker-related injuries, during the New Year festivity, in conformity with its current strategy.

"All DOH hospitals are hereby declared on Code White Alert on December 31, 2010 and January 1, 2011 to prepare their emergency units and ensure the provision of prompt emergency services to injured patients during the holiday revelry".

In response to the directive, hospitals have deployed personnel, doctors and nurses in three shifting schedules. I've just seen on the local news today some hospital attendants actively and happily preparing for emergencies. Despite the busy schedule and difficult assignments ahead, they are still wearing their beautiful smiles.

Most of us celebrate New Year with family and friends but for the medical people who will be attending their duties on New Year's Eve, it could be another distinguished if not extraordinary experience. My high regard is extended to all our dedicated doctors, nurses and hospital personnel! Your service to other people is highly appreciated. You all deserve to have a Blessed and Prosperous New Year! If only all of us will celebrate New Year without a "Bang!" ...

Taylor T5 - Inspiring Guitar Innovation

Taylor T5 - Inspiring Innovation to Guitar Players
The Taylor Guitars is well known for creating high-quality guitars and its creations were widely recognized as originals. From its humble beginnings, the company has continued to adapt new ideas that provide as an inspiration for its continuous innovation. Thus, the hybrid Taylor T5 came into existence.

Taylor T5 gave the guitar world something fresh and versatile. With the features of both acoustic and electric guitar brought together, it connects the acoustic and electric worlds in some sense that brought existence to its own guitar category. There are four T5 models to choose from namely Classic, Standard, Custom and 12-String, each bearing its own specifications. Each model is also available in different colors such as Red, Blue, Black with Edgeburst (transparent black optional), Sage Green Metallic, or Natural and finishes that include Satin and Gloss.

The rudimentary facet of the Taylor T5 is its pickup system. It has an acoustic body sensor and two humbuckers that are wired together in a five-way switch. Adjusting the five-way switch produces different pickup combinations diverging from a clean acoustic guitar to a heavy electric sound. T5 is also compatible with both acoustic and electric amplifiers and a PA system as well. T5 indeed is an inspiring innovation for guitar players who appreciate creativity in their craft.

New Year's Resolution for 2011

A few days more to go and we will be saying goodbye to year 2010. After the ferocious year of the tiger, I am looking forward for the docile year of the rabbit - the year 2011. I was born in a year of the rabbit and, with this in mind, I am so hopeful that the year would be a great one for us all.

It has become a tradition that every year, we make a New Year's resolution. I started making my own resolution when I was in grade school through the influence of some friends. Each passing year is different from the other but my new year's resolutions seem to be the same every year. My invisible list includes my goals for the year and the plans on how I could achieve those goals. My goals and plans could be different each year but they are all aiming for one ultimate aspiration - CHANGE.

I have set my New Year's resolution for this year but forgive me if I cannot share to you some of my "secret" resolutions. Nevertheless, I have already visualized some plans and that includes redesigning my blog. It has been a while since this blog was dressed up in redlight. I am contemplating on some fresh looking template, the kind that brings a different glow. Redesigning a blog is like making a Business Logo Design. There are so many factors to consider before finally choosing the most suitable design. I am still on my way looking for designs that would help attract potential readers and could give a unique identity to my blog. Wish I could find one simple yet great design for me soon!

Advance Happy New Year to All!

May Year 2011 be filled with happiness, good health and great fortune!

Birthday eCards – Surprise Our Loved Ones

Birthday Ecards – Surprise Our Loved Ones
Birthdays are special days for us and our loved ones because it is a celebration of life. This is an important day and an essential time to count all our blessings and happiness and forget our pains. Birthday wishes absolutely adds good spirits on our loved ones' birthday. We can make their birthday more special by sending our wishes through cards. If you are the creative type, you may choose to make the cards yourself or, if you don't have enough time, you can surprise your loved ones with birthday ecards.

Sending birthday ecards is an excellent way to express our birthday wishes for our loved ones and they reach out faster to them. One very interesting thing about ecards is that we can personalize them and we can say our wishes that come straight from our heart. An ecard with a personalized message shows that we truly care and could make our loved ones realize how we love them and how special they are to us.

We don't have to spend a lot of money to show our loved ones that we care. Sending inexpensive birthday ecards is one of the simplest ways to surprise our loved ones and to let them know that we are thinking of them on their very special day.

What's My Name? by Rihanna

What's My Name? by Rihanna

[Rihanna]
Ooh na na, what's my name
Ooh na na, what's my name
Ooh na na, what's my name
Ooh na na, what's my name
Ooh na na, what's my name
What's my name, what's my name

[Drake]
I heard you good with them soft lips
Yeah you know word of mouth
The square root of 69 is 8 something right?
Cuz I've been tryna work it out, oooow
Good weed, white wine
I come alive in the night time
Okay, away we go
Only thing we have on is the radio

Ooooh, let it play, say you gotta leave
But I know you wanna stay
You just waiting on the traffic jam to finish girl
The things we could do in twenty minutes girl
Say my name, say my name
Wear it out, it's getting hot, crack a window, air it out
I can get you through a mighty long day
Soon as I you go the text that I write is go say...

[Rihanna]
Not everybody knows how to work my body
Knows how to make me want it
But boy you stay up on it
You got that something that keeps me so off balance
Baby you're a challenge, let's explore your talent

[Chorus]
Hey boy, I really wanna see if you can go downtown with a girl like me
Hey boy, I really wanna be with you
Cause you're just my type
Ooh na na na na
I need a boy to take it over
Looking for a guy to put in work, uh
Oooooh, oooooh

Hey boy I really wanna see if you can go downtown with a girl like me
Hey boy, I really wanna be with you
Cause you're just my type
Ooh na na na na
I need a boy to take it over

Looking for a guy to put in work, uh
Oooooh, oooooh

Ooh na na, what's my name
Ooh na na, what's my name
Ooh na na, what's my name
What's my name, what's my name

[Rihanna]
Baby you got me, and aint nowhere that I'd be
Than with your arms around me
Back and forth you rock me
So I surrender, to every word you whisper
Every door you enter, I will let you in

[Chorus]
Hey boy, I really wanna see if you can go downtown with a girl like me
Hey boy, I really wanna be with you
Cause you're just my type
Ooh na na na na
I need a boy to take it over
Looking for a guy to put in work, uh
Oooooh, oooooh

You're so amazing, you took the time to figure me out
That's why you take me, way past the point of turning me on
You're about to break me, I swear you got me losing my mind

Ooh na na, what's my name
Ooh na na, what's my name

Ooh na na, what's my name
Ooh na na, what's my name
Ooh na na, what's my name
What's my name, what's my name

[Chorus] x2
Hey boy, I really wanna see if you can go downtown with a girl like me
Hey boy, I really wanna be with you
Cause you're just my type
Ooh na na na na
I need a boy to take it over
Looking for a guy to put in work, uh

Personal Financial Planning - Protect Your Family from Recession

The global economy is in an ICU (Intensive Care Unit). However, with a bit of flexibility and creativity, we could find ways and means to float above the current economic crisis. We could start by making some changes and adjustments in our lifestyles while making sure that we are still able to meet all the family needs.

Here are some tips to protect our family from recession.

1. Pay yourself first. Put money aside for savings first before dividing the rest for the bills and other expenses. Make it a habit to save, even if you can only afford to put aside a small amount at a time.

2. Review your budget. Check your finances and spending habits, then take out all the things that you really do not need. Learn to minimize spending for recreation-related activities.

3. Shop wisely. It is wise to compare prices at different stores and look for bargains. Check out where you can buy things at the lowest prices.

4. Avoid going into debt. Try to pay in cash and track where your money goes. Credit card purchases may lead to more financial worries later. It is also not wise to take out loans on things that you do not really need.

5. Find ways to earn extra income. There are people who actually thrive during a financial crisis because they know how to diversify and develop multiple income streams. You can take up a second job, start a small business, or invest wisely. Try to learn effective option trading strategies to ensure return of your investment.

Christmas Gift Ideas - The Thought of Gift Giving

Gift Giving has nothing to do with how much money you spend. What you need to remember when buying or making a gift is that you are not just giving your loved ones a box containing a present but a box containing your thoughts and your feelings about them.

Here are some thoughtful Christmas gift ideas and Christmas gift sets for you. Have fun choosing and enjoy making them for your loved ones!

1. Christmas Gift Baskets or Goody Baskets. You can fill the basket with items or goodies about their special interest.

2. Paperback books, cookbooks or magazines.

3. Beauty Kit. Perfect for teens and the girls in the family.

4. Framed Collage. Gather pictures of the person you are making the collage for. Then cut and organize them to make an attractive display.

5. Homemade Ornaments. A childs' foot or hand imprint creatively decorated make excellent gifts for grandparents or relatives.

6. Family or Children Portraits. This is a perfect gift for grandparents or distant relatives you might not get to see very often. You can even make a holiday frame for it.

7. A favorite toy, doll, or book from childhood that someone has spoken of fondly.

8. Family heirlooms and memorabilia passed on to the younger generation. Parents, in particular, can give their children with important family heirlooms like grandpa's pocket watch, or lola's special fan or other things that mean a lot to the family and are now being handed down to the younger members for safekeeping.

9. Unique items to add to a friend's collection.

10. Something the recipient thought he or she would never see again, like an old toy or a favorite shirt.

11. Music that was popular in the year your friend or relative was born.

12. Retro jewelry, music, or movies.

13. A toy model of Dad or Lolo's first car.

14. A copy of Mom's first cookbook.

15. Personalized storybook. Write and illustrate a story with the child as the main character, if you're giving the gift to a child.

16. Booklet of your favorite memories related to the recipient.

17. Artworks. Give a framed photograph that you took yourself, a painting or drawing you made, or even a song or a poem. For grandparents, a framed picture drawn by a grandchild is the perfect present.

18. Personalized Christmas cards. Make your own cards and send them to relatives and good friends. Involve the kids in the preparation!

19. Personalized Calendar. Make your own calendar using cut-out pictures, photos, and drawings.

20. Coupons for special activities with your significant other, like a candlelit dinner, massage, or outdoor activity.

21. Gift Certificates for restaurant dinners, movies, a home-cooked meal, a car wash, a day of babysitting, etc.

22. A jigsaw puzzle for the whole family. You are giving hours of fun and bonding.

23. Tickets to a favorite cultural or sporting event.

24. Buy small pots and plant a mini herb garden.

25. Gym memberships. This means you care about their health and well-being and would like them to stay fit and buff!

26. Buy Life Insurance. This means you are taking care of the family's future if an unexpected life event happens.

27. Homemade Preserves. You can try your hand at making homemade pickled papaya (achara) or pineapple preserves and put them in a beautiful bottle.

28. A music album of their favorite band, or a collection of their favorite songs.

29. Holiday Mug. A mug filled with chocolates and candies has become a common holiday gift idea, and is a nice gift for acquaintances.

The above gifts would probably put a smile on your loved-ones face but there is one better gift than the list above. What could be more precious than time? Take the time to visit friends and relatives whom you do not get to see very often or spend some quality time with the elderly in your family.

Get that Fantastic Skin

Our skin is the first thing that other people may notice about us. An important component of the skin is the pigment called melanin. It gives us our color and helps protect us from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

Taking care of our skin is not merely a matter of vanity, but an important health routine too. There are many skin care products available today - for whitening the complexion, for getting a youthful glow, and for eradicating skin imperfections. However, nothing beats the basic skin care, and healthy skin simply needs care and consideration.

Here are simple tips for getting a fantastic skin:

1. Keep it clean. Make sure that you cleanse your skin gently and thoroughly, and that goes not just for your face, but the skin all over your body. Use soap with mild formulation for your facial wash, hand scrubbing and bathing
.
2. Be gentle. Even though a hot bath sounds like a relaxing idea, you have to make sure that your water is not too hot. This robs skin of its natural oils and leaves it dry. Exfoliants help to scrub away dead skin cells, but you have to remember that they are not meant for everyday use. Excessive exfoliation can irritate your skin.

3. Keep away from irritants. Many experts advocate using natural items that are found in your pantry as masks, peels, or scrubs. These are fine and dandy, however, you should check for allergic reactions by dabbing a dollop of the product on a small area of your arm. Soaps and creams with strong perfumes, or unregistered products that have not been approved by your country's drug agency can cause allergic reactions or worse, so you should be wary of these too.

4. Moisturize and hydrate. Dry skin is itchy, flaky, unsightly, and irritating. Therefore, you would do best to avoid its triggers, such as using strong soaps or applying too much alcohol, and dry weather conditions. Dry skin can also be caused by excessive alcohol intake, so drink moderately! Several glasses of water helps keep the skin healthy by flushing out toxins. With inadequate amounts of water circulating through the body, toxins can build up and escape through skin pores. This contributes to acne. Therefore, by flushing the body internally with water, acne breakouts are less likely to occur.

5. Stamp out smoking. Cigarette smoking contributes 4,000 toxins to the body and is taken by the bloodstream directly to the skin, leading to wrinkles, skin discoloration, and acne. So if you want to look younger and healthier, think twice before lighting up!

6. Eat right. Feed your face right with nutrients such as Vitamin E, for youthful, glowing skin, found in nuts, seeds, and egg yolk; Vitamin C, which eliminates free radicals in the body that destroy collagen and elastin, found in citrus fruits and green leafies; and Vitamin A, which is necessary for the repair of skin tissue, found in low-fat yoghurt and other dairy products.

7. Slather on sunscreen. Sunscreen is not just for the beach! Even on cloudy days, the sun's harmful UV rays can still get to you. Before you head out, reach for a trusty bottle with at least an SPF of 30, and remember to reapply after two hours of sun exposure.

8. Trust only a pro. Never try anything drastic, such as a facial or wart treatments, without consulting a reputable dermatologist. A dermatologist can recommend the best treatment for skin problems such as acne or scars that will work best with your skin type. Before having any skin work done, insist on a consultation with the establishment's dermatologist. It may be more expensive or time-consuming to do so, but it is the best way to save your skin from damage.

9. Get some shut eye. The term beauty sleep is not just an empty promise. Skin repairs itself when you are at rest, so make sure to catch enough Zs. Don't worry if you are on the graveyard shift. Experts say that as long as you get eight hours of sleep a day, regardless whether it is in the daytime or nighttime, you can still get the full benefits of snoozing.

Personal Blogs Craze

One of the cool aspects of blogging is its broad application potential. Blogs are taking over the internet and information exchange. They can be about anything or anyone with topics ranging from personal reflection to political views. Most newbie bloggers make blogs about their personal life and their family. Personal blogs have become popular. A personal blog is a great way to jot down the things that happen in our life. It is also a good outlet to share our own perspective.

When having a personal blog, the first thing we have to keep in mind is safety. A personal blog may seem safe enough since it is nothing more than words on a web page. However, we have to keep a few personal things for ourselves like addresses, phone numbers, and even email addresses. Once we put something up on our blog, it becomes essentially public and we never know who is watching. Always keep safety in mind first, and we are well on our way to a fun and successful blogging experience.

Personal blogs have become popular on the internet. If you want to get in on the craze, you could always set up your own blog in Blogger for free. Blogger also offers a free blog hosting but with set limitations. You could also avail of another web site hosting with better hosting features.

Personalized Christmas Gifts Are More Special

Personalized Christmas Gifts Are More Special
Christmas season is here again. When the "ber" month starts, we could already smell the spirit of Christmas in the air. During this season, the one thing that automatically gets in our mind is gift giving. Thinking of what gifts to buy for our loved ones can be stressful. We have to plan on what gifts are most appropriate and suitable for them that they would surely love. Because of unplanned shopping or impulsive buying, we sometimes end up buying some things that are not worth its price. We should take our time to look around to get as much idea as possible so we could make the right choice of gift within our budget.

When you visit the malls, there are various gift items to choose. If you are still unsure on what gift to give, think of making up your very own. A personalized gift for your family and friends could make them feel more special. In whatever gift you choose, it would be more meaningful if you sweeten it up with Christmas Cards. Your loved ones would not only be delighted of your gesture but would surely feel the message you wish to convey to them and the true meaning of Christmas.

My Kids Got Sore Eyes

My Kids Got Sore Eyes
My two boys had sore eyes last weekend. On Friday afternoon, my eight-year-old son, Kuya, arrived from school with red eyes. He got it from their teacher who chose to attend school despite having sore eyes. I am not sure how many other kids got the infection from her.

I told Kuya not to touch his eyes to prevent further infection to the other eye and to lessen its possible spread to the whole household. He did follow me but eventually, while sleeping, he unconsciously rubbed his eyes with the face towel he kept on his bed. When he woke up the next day, he had two red eyes!

My toddler got sore eyes too! We treated their eyes with Terramycin eye ointment and the redness were gone within a day.

Music Monday #7 - Dirty Dancing: Time of My Life

Written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino, the film features Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Cynthia Rhodes, and Jerry Orbach. The story is a coming of age drama that documents a teenaged woman's rebellion against her father by starting a relationship with a dance instructor during a family summer vacation. Almost a third of the film involves dancing scenes choreographed by Kenny Ortega (later famous for High School Musical).

Originally a low-budget film by a new studio and with no major stars (except Broadway legend Jerry Orbach in a supporting role), Dirty Dancing became a massive box office hit. As of 2009, it earned over $214 million worldwide. It was the first film to sell more than a million copies on home video, and the Dirty Dancing soundtrack generated two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles, including "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", which won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, and a Grammy Award for best duet. The film spawned a 2004 prequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, as well as a stage version which has had sellout performances in Australia, Europe, and North America, with plans to open on Broadway.

Dirty Dancing - Time of my Life (Final Dance)

Boy: Now I've had the time of my life
No I never felt like this before
Yes I swear it's the truth
and I owe it all to you

Girl: 'Cause I've had the time of my life
and I owe it all to you

Boy: I've been waiting for so long
Now I've finally found someone
To stand by me

Girl: We saw the writing on the wall
As we felt this magical fantasy

Both: Now with passion in our eyes
There's no way we could disguise it secretly
So we take each other's hand
'Cause we seem to understand the urgency

Boy: just remember

Girl: You're the one thing

Boy: I can't get enough of

Girl: So I'll tell you something

Both:This could be love because

(CHORUS)
Both: I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you
'Cause I've had the time of my life
And I've searched through every open door
'Til I found the truth
And I owe it all to you

Girl: With my body and soul
I want you more than you'll ever know

Boy: So we'll just let it go
Don't be afraid to lose control

Girl: Yes I know whats on your mind
When you say:
"Stay with me tonight."

Boy: Just remember
You're the one thing

Girl: I can't get enough of

Boy: So I'll tell you something

Both: This could be love because

(CHORUS)
Both: 'Cause I had the time of my life
No I've never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you
'Cause I've had the time of my life
And I've searched through every open door
Till I found the truth
and I owe it all to you

*Instrumental*

Boy: Now I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before

(Girl: Never Felt this way)

Boy: Yes I swear it's the truth
and I owe it all to you

Both: 'Cause I had the time of my life
And I've searched through every open door
Till I've found the truth
and I owe it all to you

Both: "cause I've had the time of my life
No I've never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you

Save Space with Contemporary Furnitures

We had so many paint cans at the back of our house. I kept them for future use. Actually, I was planning to use them to plant some vegetables and flowering plants. Our little garden does not have enough space for additional plants. With plants on the cans, I could just easily hang them to save some space. This would also be a great decoration for our living room especially the flowering ones.

We only have a small living room. With three active kids, especially our little toddler, we need every little space we have for the kids' activities like play, play and play! Well, my kids are just too busy everyday. Hubby and I planned on purchasing a Contemporary Furniture for the living room. A living room sofa is one of our priorities. We realized we have to get one because whenever our relatives and friends come to visit, we use our dining seats for them. It would be more comfortable if we have them seated on a very nice and soft sofa sets.

I have one particular sofa design in my mind but I think it would not fit the living room. I saw one that is designed with practicality. We could not only save some space for the living room but also have additional storage spaces.

Music Monday #6 - Another One Bites the Dust by Queen

Another One Bites the Dust

Steve walks warily down the street with the brim pulled way down low
Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet, machine gun's ready to go
Are you ready? Hey, are you ready for this?
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?
Out of the doorway the bullets rip to the sound of the beat, Yeah
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone
And another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

How do you think I'm gonna get along without you when you're gone?
You took me for everything that I had and kicked me out on my own
Are you happy? Are you satisfied?
How long can you stand the heat?
Out of the doorway the bullets rip to the sound of the beat (Look out)
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone
And another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

HEY
Oh, take it
Bite the dust
Bite the dust yeah

Hey
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust, oh
Another one bites the dust, hey, hey
Another one bites the dust, heeeeey
Oh, shoot out

There are plenty of ways you can hurt a man and bring him to the ground
You can beat him, you can cheat him
You can treat him bad and leave him when he's down
But I'm ready, yes I'm ready for you
I'm standing on my own two feet
Out of the doorway the bullets rip, repeating the sound of the beat. Oh yeeeah
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone
And another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust
Shoot it
Hey
Alright

Wordless Wednesday #4 - Mangodlong Beach Resort in Camotes

Mangodlong Beach Resort in Camotes

Sinabawang Upo and Salted Fish Recipe

Sinabawang Upo and Salted Fish

This is a one-dish meal with fish and vegetables. This meal is a practical way of providing good nutrition for the whole family. The fish in this dish is a good source of protein, while the upo is a natural source of iron, calcium and B vitamins. This is so easy to prepare and it is light for my pockets. :)

Sinabawang Upo and Salted Fish
Ingredients:
2 tbsp cooking oil
1 thumb ginger, sliced
1 tbsp crushed garlic
1/4 cup sliced onion
2 cups shredded salted fish (whole salted fish, soaked in water for 2 hours then shredded)
3 cups cubed, seeded upo
1 liter water
1 11g chicken broth cube
2 cups malunggay leaves

Procedure:
  1. Heat oil. Sauté ginger, garlic and onion until limp and fragrant.
  2. Stir in salted fish and cook for 2 minutes. Add in upo and cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Pour in water and bring to a boil. Add chicken broth cube. Simmer for another 5 minutes. Stir-in malunggay leaves. Serve hot.

Wordless Wednesday #3 - Evolution of Man

Evolution of Man
Evolution of Man

I Failed and I Am Guilty

Wish I could have more than enough time for my kids. With my work schedule [I'm on a graveyard shift], household chores and a toddler that took most of my time (and energy), I could barely have time to help them out with their studies.

I could not remember the last time I have helped them with their homework and school projects. It must have been a long time! Sigh* One of the many responsibilities of a good parent is to help and assist their kids with their education. With this, I failed – I'm guilty. But that does not make me a bad parent, does it? I'm trying to stretch my time and energy.

My kids are busy preparing for their exams. It's their first grading exam and they are trying their best to have good marks. It has always been their dream [and our dream for them] to be on the honors list. Will they make it? I'm crossing my fingers.

I just remembered when I took the entrance exam at Xavier University, my mother was with me. We brought snacks and drinks, and I feel like we're having a field trip! Hope someday, when my kids grew up and they will be taking entrance exams - even if it's the CAT 2011 Entrance Exam, I could be there to assist them with their needs. I have learned from personal experience how important parents are on times like this.

Music Monday #5 - A Love Song

A Love Song

Why do people cry
When they hear the word goodbye
In a love song?
Tears are sure to fall
When you know they gave it all
In a love song.
Somehow two lovers get a chance
At a beautiful romance
And you wish it could be you.

‘cause everybody’s needing
what the singers all are singing
in a love song.

It can tear you apart
‘cause a word can break a heart
in a love song.
They say all the things you feel
And they make it sound so real
In a love song.
It seems that everything they say
Is said in such a way
That we believe it’s true.

‘cause everybody’s needing
what the singers all are singing
in a love song.

Each of us know
there’s no guarantee
we’ll ever find love.
And in the songs that we share
The heartache is there
To remind us.
New love brings a thrill
And we know it always will
In a love song.

Happiness can leave
But it helps if we believe
In a love song.
There’s a part of you and me
In every memory
That tells us who we are.

And everybody’s needing
what the singers all are singing
in a love song.

And everybody’s needing
what the singers all are singing
in a love song.

D' Family Park – Great Place for a Family Outing

Our first visit at D' Family Park

It has been more than a year since we last visited D' Family Park in Talamban. It is the first park of its kind in Cebu. It offers an alternative and wholesome recreation site within the city while promoting the protection and regeneration of plants and animals.

One can find swimming pools - for kids and for adults, a picnic camp site that is great for holiday camps and the likes, a vast children's playground with play things like swings, see-saws, slides, tykes play stations and more, a wildlife sanctuary, a mini-zoo and botanical research garden with a nursery, a multi-function club house and pavilion designed to suit one's needs for any social activities.

The 20-hectare area is nature-friendly. Trees surround the whole complex. Lying nearby is a one-hectare lagoon with colorful school of fish. Park goers are provided with ample parking spaces for a minimal fee. The park has a large stage, equipped with an up-to-date sound system. Fronting the stage is a huge open field/ground big enough to hold ball games. At its side are kiosks structured for those who just want to enjoy the serenity of the greeneries.

My kids had a great time during their last visit. Since then, they never stopped asking us to go back to Family Park.

Preventive Maintenance for Washing Machine

Dirt and grime build up quickly inside the washing machine. It may result in a foul smell, which can easily transfer to your clothes. Cleaning washing machines on a regular basis will definitely keep it fresh.

Here are some simple ways to clean your washing machine:
  • Wash the tub with clean water after every use. This removes the dirt inside the washing machine.
  • Remove solid residue found inside the machine. Then with a cleaning cloth, wipe the interior surface.
  • Wipe the exterior surface of the washing machine with cleaning cloth and all-purpose cleaner or dish soap.
  • Clean the outside vent once a year and make sure it opens when the dryer is on and closes properly when the dryer is off.

Mountain Resort Summer Outing 2010

We do have a company summer outing annually. Most of the summer outings were held on beach resorts with lovely wide swimming pools and enticing blue seas.

Most beach resorts require proper swimming attires so you could enjoy the pools. Conservatives wear shorts and spaghettis, others wear one-piece swimsuit and the more confident ones wear beautiful two-piece bikinis.
Oh, well, I do sometimes imagine myself wearing two-piece bikinis and always end up with a big laugh. With those stretch marks and "baby" fats caused by three pregnancies, I would make a hilarious picture. I know science could make some miracles on those sites but since I could not afford yet professional services like Dr. Dulin's, I'll just wear suits that could hide those unsightly marks.

Last year's summer outing was great, they say. Sadly, I was not able to attend because I was confined in the hospital celebrating another "motherhood" stage - giving birth to my third child.

This year's summer outing was real fun! We had it on a different venue. It was our first time to have it on a mountain resort. The invigorating mountain air, beautiful mountain views, good food, clean lovely swimming pools all on our own, and great games that made everyone laugh, twist and shout, made the whole activity even more enjoyable and revitalizing.

Preventive Maintenance for Refrigerator

We store our foods in the refrigerator, so it is very important to keep it clean and germ-free. Improperly stored foods, leaks and spills are possible nesting grounds for bacteria. To prevent our family from getting food-borne diseases, we have to make sure that our refrigerator is debris-free for it to run smoothly.

Here are some simple steps to clean our refrigerator:
  • Wash the shelves with mild detergent and warm water. Use disinfectant to kill bacteria.

  • Wipe the gaskets whenever there is debris or clean it at least once every three to four months to keep the cold air flowing continuously.

  • Clean the refrigerator’s exterior face with hot water and dish soap when it shows any off coloring.

  • Clean the coils in your refrigerator by using a handheld vacuum to remove any loose particles. You may vacuum every 6 to 12 months. If you don't have a vacuum cleaner, wipe the coils with a dry cloth every 3 months.

Preventive Maintenance for Appliances

Like most mothers, our home is my haven. I take great measures in taking care of our home. I don't care if my hands get dirty as long as my home is neat and clean! However, with three kids around the house (which includes a frisky toddler), keeping it neat is close to impossible.

There is one aspect to cleaning the house that I usually overlook. That is, having a regular maintenance check up for our appliances. Most high-quality appliances are designed to last for a long period of time. However, if we don’t give them the proper care, we might shorten the time that we have them in good working condition.

Preventive maintenance on our appliances keeps them working at their best. It also helps them to last for as long as possible. Regular maintenance saves us from possible list of repairs that may prove to be expensive later on.

First Hair Cut Beliefs

It has been a family practice to have the first hair cut when baby turns one year old. Before going to any salon, we'll cut a few hair strands and insert them to a page in a book. It was believed that the child would become smart or would excel in some fields depending on the kind of book where the hair was inserted. Is this a joke?

I personally do not believe this crap but I do it anyway, hahaha! We won't lose anything here if this is not true but, if it is, then baby will grow smart. I did this to my first two kids and I will do it again to my baby (though he is not a baby anymore, I still consider him my baby). Oh, well, huh.

Belief or No Belief, we are going to have baby's first hair cut. His hair has grown long and thin, and it becomes unruly especially after getting out of bed. I did the first hair cuts with my first two kids. However, with the second one, I went to a salon and let the hair experts finish the job. I realized then that it's more difficult to cut a boy's hair. I just can't get the right hairstyle for him. So, it's better to leave them to professionals like the staff of Temecula Beauty Salon.

Now that baby turned a year old, he will probably have his first hair cut. But I won't do it on my own. I've learned my lesson pretty well.

How Do You Spell A Word?

My daughter had a spelling exam and their teacher let them spell the word she pronounced as "wither".

She asked her teacher what she means but her teacher did not mind her because it was an exam.

So she spelled the word as how she heard her teacher - wither.

The result – she misspelled the word.

Confused? Well, what their teacher really meant was "weather" and not "wither".

She complained to me that their teacher does not know how to pronounce the words correctly so she got wrong in their exam.

I just told my daughter, "Next time, you ask your teacher to use the word in a sentence so that no matter how she wrongly pronounces the word, at least you know what the word she needs you to spell".

I was left wondering how their teacher could effectively teach when she can't even correctly pronounce some simple English words. Well, some (or many?) teachers need REAL refinement on this aspect.

Strong Earthquake Shake Philippines

Did I just experience an earthquake or was it just my head spinning because of sleepless nights?

At 6:52 this morning, I felt my monitors slightly shook. I thought I only imagined what just happened but it felt so real, so I checked the internet and found out there was really a strong earthquake in Mindanao.

While I was reading the report from USGS, another slight shake happened at 7:16am. We are lucky to experience only slight tremors here in Cebu City. I just hope the quake did not result to any serious damages.

Music Monday #3: Pyramid by Charice Feat Iyaz

Charice - "Pyramid" Featuring Iyaz

See her on GLEE soon!

"Pyramid"
(feat. Iyaz)

[Iyaz]
Shawty's love is like a pyramid (ooh)
We stand together till the very end (eh ooh)
There'll never be another love for sure (ooh)
Iyaz and Charice let we go

Stones, heavy like the love you've shown
Solid as the ground we've known
And I just wanna carry on
We took it from the bottom up
And even in a desert storm
Sturdy as a rock we hold
Wishing every moment froze
Now I just wanna let you know
Earthquakes can't shake us
Cyclones can't break us
Hurricanes can't take away our love

[Chorus:]
Pyramid, we built this on a solid rock
It feels just like it's heaven's touch
Together at the top, like a pyramid
And even when the wind is blowing
We'll never fall just keep on going
Forever we will stay, like a pyramid

Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh (ooh)
Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh (ooh)
Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh eh (oooh)
Cold, never ever wear any clothes
We will never let it fall
A story that was never told
Something like a mystery
And every step you took we've grown
Look how fast our time has flown
A journey to a place unknown
We're going down in history
Earthquakes can't shake us
Cyclones can't break us
Hurricanes can't take away our love

[Chorus]

Pyramid, keep it going

Like a pyramid girl let me show you
That I love you so much
That we gonna get through (oh oh)
Even when there's storms
I will never go, Ima be the one to keep you safe (hey)
Before was our love back it up more than enough
Holding on to one another be the cover when it's rough (oh oh)
Mother nature (hey) or disaster won't stop at happy ever after

[Chorus]

Built this on a solid rock
It feels just like it's heaven's touch
Together at the top, like a pyramid
And even when the wind is blowing
We'll never fall just keep on going
Forever we will stay, like a pyramid

Pyramid, pyramid, pyramid, pyramid
Pyramid, pyramid, pyramid

Music Monday #2 - Luha by Aegis

Here's a song from one of my favorite bands here in the Philippines.

Luha by Aegis

Akala ko ikaw ay akin
Totoo sa aking paningin
Ngunit nang ikaw ay yakapin
Naglalaho sa dilim
Ninais kong mapalapit sa 'yo
Ninais kong malaman mo

Pagbabayaran mo

Tingnan mo ang katotohanan
Na tayo'y pare-pareho lamang
May damdamin ding nasasaktan
Puso mo'y nasaan

Pagbabayaran mo

Ayaw ko nang mangarap
Ayaw ko nang tumingin
Ayaw ko nang manalamin
Nasasaktan ang damdamin
(2x)

Gulong ng buhay
Patuloy-tuloy sa pag-ikot
Noon ako ay nasa ilalim
Bakit ngayon nasa ilalim pa rin

Gulong ng buhay
Patuloy-tuloy sa pag-ikot
Noon ako ay nasa ilalim
Sana bukas nasa ibabaw naman

Obong Spring - Ice Cold Dip in Dalaguete

I did not have the chance to visit Obong Spring in Dalaguete when we visited Alcoy last month. When we went back to celebrate the annual fiesta in Guiwang, I made it sure to spend time to not only visit the place but also experience the relaxing cold water.

It was a low tide when we went there so the water inside the nature's pool came only from the spring. Out of curiosity, I tasted the water to see if it really is pure spring water. The water was a little bit salty. It may be because of the underground seawater.

We have to cross the water to get to the cottage. The water on the other side is just knee-high and walking there is not a problem.

The water was soooo cold, I wished I brought a jacket with me. I was only half-submerged but I am already trembling. I had double thoughts whether to take the plunge or not. I never thought the water could be cold as ice, hahaha! You don't have to bring ice to keep your drinks cold. You have the biggest pool of ice cold water to keep them. It reminds me of Timoga Spring Pools in Iligan City! It took me a while to really have my first plunge. I have successfully toned my body temperature to adapt to the cold spring water and finally enjoyed the spring.

Obong Spring in Dalaguete is just a 15-minute ride from Guiwang Alcoy. If you're from the city, you can get there through bus going to Bato and Oslob. If you have your own means of transportation, parking would never be a problem. There's enough parking space for a minimal fee of Php20 for cars and Php5 for tricycle and motorcycle. The entrance fees for adults and children are only Php5 and Php2 respectively. We arrived there at around four in the afternoon and were charged only Php20 flat for the car parking; the entrance fees for 8 adults and 3 kids were waved and I thank the friendly gatekeepers for that (*grin*)!
